The firm continues one of the oldest trust and estate practices in the United States. We represent individual and institutional clients in a broad range of matters involving all aspects of personal and estate planning including the drafting of all documents necessary to implement such plans, family and elder law, fiduciary responsibilities and trust and estate administration. The continuing representation of the trust division of a major New York City bank for over one hundred and fifty years involves the group regularly in a wide variety of complex fiduciary matters.
The expertise of our attorneys in this practice area includes all facets of federal and multi-state gift, estate and generation skipping taxes, as well as income tax matters. It has extensive experience in specialized types of litigation such as contested probates, construction proceedings and objections to accountings. The firm is sensitive to the changing needs of its individual clients and acts as a family adviser with respect to a wide array of estate planning, long term asset protection, charitable giving, retirement planning, tax and matrimonial issues. The practice group has been involved in a number of estate, trust and tax issues involving foreign countries. We represent a number of not-for-profit organizations including foundations, hospitals, child care agencies, and schools. We advise these clients on a wide variety of issues, including corporate and governance matters. Members of the firm serve on not-for-profit boards.
